Burning Mountain Nature Reserve is only 19 kilometres north of Scone, NSW.

Watch for the Scone Shire Council carpark and rest area on the right hand side of the New England Highway just north of Wingen.

 

 

Details of the walk and information on local history and Aboriginal culture are found in the rotunda at the rest area.

Then following the walktrack to the Burning Mountain Nature Reserve.

Along the track interpretative signs explain the effect of the burning coal seam on the landscape, the significance of the area to the Aboriginal people and the history of the phenomenon that is "burning mountain".

The walk takes approximately one and a half-hours return. A cold drink, hat and suitable footwear will ensure you enjoy the walk.
