Welcome to SCONE

Scone lays claim to the title "Horse Capital of Australia" - and with good reason.

Nestled in the Upper Hunter Valley, Scone is home to more than 65 horse studs breeding millions of dollars worth of foals every year.  Scone also boasts the headquarters of the Australian Stock Horse Society, a racecourse equal to any in the big cities, an equine research centre, a TAFE campus specialising in rural and equine studies and Olympic Equine Facilities.

Scone attractions also include bushwalking and picnic facilities in the Towarri National Park, the Barrington Tops National Park with its snow in winter, the spectacular Washpools and the unique Burning Mountain displaying underground coal seams that have been smouldering for thousands of years.

Lake Glenbawn has to be seen to believed and is popular for day trips and overnight stays in camping areas, caravan park or log cabins.  Fishing and waterskiing enthusiasts abound.

Scone is home to three vineyards and several surrounding villages offering true rural hospitality.  Aberdeen is also worth visiting, especially on the first weekend in July when it hosts the annual Scottish Highland Games.

All this and only a three and a half hour drive from Sydney, two hours from Newcastle and one and a half hours from Tamworth.
